The Yancey Richardson Gallery is pleased to present our second annual project gallery exhibition of new works on paper by emerging artists. Pacific Lines features works by new California artists several of whose imagery references the influences of pop culture, cinema and tropical landscape distinctive to the southern pacific coast.
Doug Crocco’s drawing of Joe Cool, a tape deck like character, recalls the 1980’s graffiti art movement and break-dancing culture. Faris McReynold’s mixed media Motorcade is a sardonic commentary on Los Angeles car culture and Hollywood moguls. Andrew Hahn’s small watercolors of female heads isolated against a dark ground suggest a cinematic moment frozen in time. Portia Hein’s delicate botanical washes, Chris Finley’s earth-toned elliptical abstractions and Scott Waterman’s landscapes, lush with palm trees and floral motifs, evoke a beach lifestyle commonly associated with the west coast. Finally, Casey Jex Smith mixes abstraction with realism in his extraordinary drawings inspired by the scriptural paintings of the Mormon Church.
The exhibition is organized by Dean Anes, Director of Acme Gallery, Los Angeles and freelance curator.
