DBA @ Big Pictures Los Angeles

Group show curated by Doug Crocco, Los Angeles, California, October, 2017.

Big Pictures Los Angeles is pleased to announce the opening of DBA, a group show featuring the work of Tanya Aguiniga, Olivia Booth, Melissa Chhan, Doug Crocco, Phillip Estlund, Eben Goff, Ross Hansen, Alvaro Ilizarbe, Samantha Jacober, Charles Hollis Jones, Edgar Orlaineta, Alex Jacob Reed, Ben Sanders, Sophie Stone, Lani Trock, Dani Tull, Dakota Witzenburg, and Bari Ziperstein.

In the business world the term DBA is an abbreviation for Doing Business As, a sort of legal separation from the self, it also happens to be the abbreviation for Design by Artists. Many of the artists in the show have created such businesses exclusively for their design ventures, while others choose to treat their work as individual pieces of art, with no intent to ever mass produce or market the objects as furniture. In this installation the gallery has been transformed into a functional bedroom, a fantastic bedroom where all the objects and surfaces are artistic creations. The show aims to push the boundaries of how living spaces can feel, and explores the landscape of artist made design and their varying degrees of commitment to working within a design paradigm.
